Hello all,
just a week before going live with gloofi, everybody is talking about the Yahoo/Microsoft merger and the possible positive effects for Google.
Why positive effects for Google?
As we all know, many users do not like Microsoft and so they would move their advertisements away from Yahoo to Google or other ad networks. Google might get the most advertisements in the short term, but others might have a chance too to cash in on advertisements since not everybody is happy with the high fees paid to Google for good keywords.
Would the merger be good for smaller search engines?
I think it would since Yahoo/Microsoft might get a grip on getting a better percentage against Google in the long run. During that battle, smaller search engines might have the chance to get more users since the ones who don’t like Google might also not like Microsoft and so the smaller ones will come out.
We will see what the future will bring, but always look at the past, when Altavista was the No. 1 search engine, AOL the biggest Internet company and Yahoo the No. 1 stock. We all see that things can change fast and that is why I try to get into this market to change how we search and maybe things change to be positive and one day another small Start-Up search engine will have some percentage market share.
OK, see you all next week at www.gloofi.com.
